Sports Commission Cup
What is the Sports Commission Cup?
The Springfield Sports Commission celebrates the outstanding athletic achievements of entire athletics programs at each school based on their performance in MSHSAA-sanctioned sports.
The prestigious Sports Commission Cup, now heading into its third year, has quickly become an anticipated award, sparking excitement and competition among schools striving to earn this honor. The winning school proudly displays the Cup at their district for the year before it is passed on to the next recipient.
How is the Sports Commission Cup Winner Decided?
The point system for the Sports Commission Cup is based on championships sponsored by MSHSAA and features separate structures for bracket and non-bracket sports.
Bracket Sports: Points are awarded in descending increments starting with 75 points for the state champion. Final Four teams receive points in 10-point increments while other brackets descend by five points. Football is unique, with no third-place game and a modified structure.
Non-bracket Sports: Points are awarded to the top 16 teams in descending order, with 75 points for first place and 12 points for sixteenth.
This structure ensures fair recognition of athletic achievements across all sports.
